Book Review: Compromising Kessen by Rachel Van Dyken

Image
I'm a huge fan of Rachel Van Dyken. My favorite of her series unities the mafia with ever-popular new adult line and makes for a fantastic suspense/romance/thriller, Eagle Elite . Her other hugely popular series is Seaside; a general NA contemporary romance series which I've also had the pleasure of reading. If you're a fan of Abbi Glines, Colleen Hoover, and the like, then you will love the Seaside novels. In the Vandenbrook series, Rachel expands on her contemporary romance streak with a romantic comedy. ( Blurb):  The last thing career-driven Kessen Newberry wants is to leave her home in Colorado to spend a Season in London, far away from her job, her friends and the memories of her mother. However, her father, the Earl of Newberry, threatens to disinherit her unless she gets in touch with her British roots. She complies, but has no intention of enjoying the experience. That is until she meets Christian Vandenbrook, the arrogant and irritatingly handsome future Duke ...

News at The Book Cove: August-September updates

Image
Happy Friday!! I'll make everyone's Friday just a little bit better by starting off with this cute picture of my puppy, Emma: Too much cuteness to handle at once! Now on to the news... Reviews I've finally gotten back into the swing of reviewing and I've slowly been accepting books to review (versus only reading books I've purchased due to time constraints). So more people on the review request list have been hearing from me, however, there are 100's on that list and I cannot (and do not) want to read them all. As  usual, I will try to get as many reviewed by guest reviewers as possible but that too is a little slow going these days. Blog Takeover Our last blog take over winner was Nick Tory. If you did not catch his entries, you should do so now! They're hilarious, spot on, and a little bit crazy! In September we will have our 2nd blog takeover winner, author Emily Walker. And if her posts are anything like her winni...

Review: Ruin by Rachel Van Dyken

Image
(Blurb): I'm not your typical girl. I've been running away from the memories that haunt me for so long that depression has become my only comfort. I was content in the darkness...until Wes Michals offered to be my light. I didn't know that time wasn't my ally -- that every second that ticked past was one step closer to the end of something that was beginning to mean the end of myself. He tried to warn me. He promised me all he was able to offer--each moment as it came--but it would never be enough. Sometimes when you think it's the end, it's only the beginning. Wes thought he could save me, but in giving me everything, he ruined me. Because after one kiss, one touch, I couldn't--I wouldn't ever be the same. And from that moment on, his heartbeat became my own. Review: Shatter (Seaside, #3) by Rachel Van Dyken

Image
(Blurb) : Sometimes the only way to heal... is to shatter. Rock star Alec Daniels has it all. Love, fame, money... But being in the limelight isn't all it’s cracked up to be, and after one bad choice comes back to haunt him he is left picking up the pieces of his carefully constructed life. Now he faces the toughest decision of his life: Deal with his mistake like a man, or dive back into the dark hole of depression, drugs, and denial that have been his comfort for so long. One wrong move could destroy everything. His girlfriend, his family, and his future. Review: Having read Tear (Seaside, #1) a few months back, I was a little hesitant at reading Shatter. My review for Tear was laced in disappointment as Rachel Van Dyken had quickly stolen my heart as a new author with her other books - only to let me fall face first in Tear. I kicked around the idea of reading the rest of this series for a while. My main complaint in Tear was that the characters were too imma...

Review: Elite (Eagle Elite) By Rachel Van Dyken

Image
Elite (Eagle Elite) By Rachel Van Dyken (Good Reads) When I won the annual Eagle Elite College Scholarship lottery, I was thrilled. After all, my grandma had just died and I wanted to take care of my aging grandpa -- he couldn't be a farmer in Wyoming forever. And graduating from Eagle Elite meant opportunity. But I wasn't counting on meeting Nixon. Nor was I counting on the rules of the Elect. 1. Do not touch The Elect. 2. Do not look at The Elect. 3. Do not speak to The Elect. And worst of all? Don't discover the secret they hide, because in the end, you may just realize... it's about you.   Review: One word: AMAZING! Rachel really nailed it with this one. Having read a few of hers now, I've grown to appreciate her as an author. Elite (Eagle Elite) is the first installment of the Elite series and I am definitely continuing on when the next book is out. Where do I even start with this?? It's a story about giving up a life you were comfort...

Review: Tear (Seaside, #1) by Rachel Van Dyken

Image
Tear (A Seaside Novel) by Rachel Van Dyken Tear is about a girl, Nat, who discovers that the mega-stars from the band AD2 are going to her high school. As time progresses she befriends the stars and finds out the real reason the guys decided to take a little break from show biz. She soon finds out that life isn't always what it seems and they embark on some self discovery. This review has some general spoilers about how the relationships play out (but not in great detail). I try not to do that too much, but it's the only way I can convey my disappointment. Judging by others reviews, I wasn't expecting this to be a 5 star. Maybe a 4 star read. But, it was $0.99 and I was looking for a quick read before bed so I purchased it. Before I start, I have to give Rachel credit and recommend  another of her books, The Bet . Honestly, it's like reading two different authors when you compare The Bet to this poorly written novel, Tear . I was surprised at the writing st...

Review: The Bet by Rachel Van Dyken

Image
The Bet by Rachel Van Dyken The Bet is about a couple of childhood friends that are reunited under some interesting circumstances. Those circumstances just so happen to be self-made and take the lovely Kace on a frustrating journey with her old flame Jake Titus. Jake, who's takeover of the family business has made him into the most eligible billionaire bachelor, is used to control and thinks he can plan everyone's life around his. But Kace knows better and refuses to fall in the same old trap that she did when they were younger. This isn't the first book that I have read by Van Dyken. Honestly, after reading Tear (A Seaside Novel) I was a little unsure if I'd like The Bet. I found Tear to be written in more of a pre-teen/teen fashion and I didn't think Rachel would have what it takes to write more in the YA category. I was pleasantly surprised with The Bet . At first I wasn't sure that I would be too into a story about a love triangle between brothe...
