Review: A Little Too Far by Lisa Desrochers

(Blurb): Have you ever gone just a little too far?

Lexie Banks has.

Yep. She just had mind-blowing sex with her stepbrother. In her defense, she was on the rebound, and it's more of a my-dad-happened-to-marry-a-woman-with-a-super-hot-son situation. But still, he's been her best friend and confidant for the better part of the last few years ... and is so off limits. It's a good thing she's leaving in two days for a year abroad in Rome.

But even thousands of miles away, Lexie can't seem to escape trouble. Raised Catholic, she goes to confession in hopes of alleviating some of her guilt ... and maybe not burning in hell. Instead, she stumbles out of the confessional and right into Alessandro Moretti, a young and very easy-on-the-eyes deacon ... only eight months away from becoming a priest. Lexie and Alessandro grow closer, and when Alessandro's signals start changing despite his vow of celibacy, she doesn't know what to think. She's torn between falling in love with the man she shouldn't want and the man she can't have. And she isn't sure how she can live with herself either way.

Review:

Holy WOW. Literally. Nothing says Holy wow like a soon-to-be-Preist, a stepbrother, and a sexually frustrated girl thrown together in this wonderfully sinful book. Now, the premise sounds incestuous, but it really isn't that bad. Of course that depends on what you consider bad. But seriously, the way this story plays out actually has you rooting for the step-sibling hook-up. Trent (step-brother) is Lexie's (step-sister) one and only confidant, and vice-versa. They've gone through a lot together since their parents got married and the progression of their relationship comes off as a very natural thing.

When Lexie leaves for study abroad in Rome, she meets Reverend Moretti. The really intersting part about her experience in Rome is the Art History. The Author, Desrochers, clearly knows what she is writing about, and because this isn't a subject that is typically written about, it really brings the reader in at a different level.

I absolutely loved the interaction between Reverend Moretti and Lexie. Talk about sinful at it's best! As much as I loved Trent/Lexie, I found myself really really routing for Moretti/Lexie. Just something about the prospect of a soon-to-be-Priest being morally corrupted. I know. I'm an awful person and I'm probably going to Hell for that comment. But it'll be a party there! ;-)

The development of the story was great and the character interaction always had you wanting more. However, in the end I felt like I was left hanging with some of the character resolution. Each made their peace with whatever decisions that they decided to make, and their decisions were warranted. But some decisions seemed a little quick and left the characters sounding a little too iffy about their decisions.

I'm leaving this with 4 glasses and a pretty hot mark. I will definitely be picking up the next in this stand-alone series, A Little Too Much.

My favorite excerpt: This is when Lexie decided to go to a confessional while in Rome.
