A penny for your thoughts #17 (quote by Winston Churchill)

Words touch us all in different ways. Sometimes the original intent of a quote resonates so profoundly with us that it is hard to believe that another wrote it. Other times it is a single word, peculiar phrasing, or an alternative meaning regarding an event in our lives that resonates the most. I believe in the power of starting the the week off with a positive or provoking thought -- and so was created A Penny For Your Thoughts. This is a weekly blog hop that will feature quotes of all kinds; classics, character, book-movie, personal, etc. The themes will range from funny to serious, but really it all depends on how you interpret it! How does this work?

  1. Every Sunday a quote will be posted
  2. Enter by posting your thoughts on a post of your own or the comment section of a participating blog. You only get the penny for one or the other. You can do both but it doesn't count twice. You must ENTER YOUR NAME IN STEP 5 as well. Otherwise I can't keep track of entries.
  3. Collect the pennies! Every week there will be a new penny to collect and include with your post, if you choose.
  4. RAFFLE ENTRY: Your site or comment needs to be submitted to this form as well so that your name can be uploaded to a raffle generator. If you're using a comment as a submission instead of a post, then put name of site where you left the comment in the "direct link" section.
  5. Those with posts can join up on the Linky
  6. On the last Saturday of every month the entries from the form above will be entered in a drawing. Winner will be notified on Sunday. You get as many entries as you have pennies for the month. Prizes will include books, gift cards, site promotion, and other bookish winnings!
  7. Have fun! This is a fun way to start some discussion, discover blogs, and get to know more people. Please re-post these steps so that followers understand the process.

A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance
to get its pants on.

My thoughts...

No arguments here -- rumors are usually so much more exciting than real life happenings. As much as I try not to take part in gossip, it's hard to turn your head away and ears off when some juicy office stories start going around, or you hear somewhere down the grapevine about so-and-so. While there can be some truth to a rumor, it's a bit like the game "telephone" where each person that hears to story adds a little more detail, mishears a word, or emphasizes a certain moot point. Even the silliest of miscommunication can turn into rumors...and perhaps turn into truth by the time it reaches certain people.

Funny story time...

One time I went to a friends get together and I was talking to a guy I hadn't seen in a while. Someone that was there decided that this guy and I were suddenly attracted to each other (based on a 10 minute conversation) and decided to excitedly tell everyone that we were probably going to start dating. News made its way to the guy before I had any clue that people thought this. His thought then was that I had said something to someone and started planning a date. News of this spread so quickly that I found out about this "date" from a friend, whose...get ready for this... sister's, boyfriend's, mom, had heard it from a friend, whose blah blah... you get the picture.  I get this excited call from my friend that went something like, "I'm so excited that you and (name) are going on a date to (restaurant) and (activity) tomorrow night!" Which left me scratching my head like, "Say whaaaa?" Yep...that's right...my friend asked me out on the date before the guy had time to. Hahaha!

I'll be nice and not leave you hanging and say that yes, I decided to go on the date when he asked me a couple of hours later, even though I would have never thought about it in the first place. And no, the relationship didn't last more than a month. Life lesson: follow your initial instincts and don't feel pressured to date someone just because you're friends kinda threw you into the deep in with one ;)

Collect the penny and share your thoughts! (worth 1 entry)
