Book Talk: Why bloggers are not reviewing your book

This is going to be one of those "Hard Truth" posts. Book bloggers are a group of people who do what they do for free (most of them anyways). Since it's our spare time used and no money involved, we're pretty selective about the books that we choose. For the most part, a review rejection can be pretty cut-and-dry;  we're not interested in the topic so we decline the review. There are some things that authors do that influence our choice before we even look at the book synopsis. Not reading review policies - As I just said, we often times get review requests for a book that we have absolutely no interest in; meaning obvious disinterest in the genre and not book theme. If you can't take 5 seconds to read the policy, then why should we read your book?  Poor grammar in emails - We're internet acquaintances. We don't know you or anything about you. But when you send an email with " will u read my book bout traveling 1 leg man"   we will

Book Review: Throne of Glass Series by Sarah J. Maas

Image
Series Review I jumped on this series late...as usual. Throne of Glass , book #1, came out in 2012 and I only discovered the series a couple of months ago thanks to an awesome friend with great taste. The series was described with all of my favorite buzzwords; strong world building, fantasy, strong young adult, badass female lead, important secondaries, just enough fill without a lot of fluff.... the list could go on. They were all 100% correct. I LOVED IT. Favorite read(s) of 2015/2016 by far! What makes a young adult book great is when you can tell that the character is trying to find their way in the world (aka grow up) but yet refrains from whining and self-loathing about every problem they encounter. At the same time, I don't want to read about a 17-year-old who sounds and acts 40 --  because that's not real life. I like to see the character learn and evolve. Make some mistakes and make some surprisingly mature decisions. Sarah Maas wrote this series beautifully
