Review: After the Kiss by Lauren Layne

Image
After the Kiss: By Lauren Layne   Available Aug 26 from Random House (Loveswept) (Blurb): Julie Greene loves flings. Loves steamy first dates, sizzling first kisses, and every now and then, that first sexy romp between the sheets. Comfy pants, sleepy Sundays, movie nights on the couch? Shudder. But when Julie gets assigned the hardest story of her career—a first-person account of that magical shift between dating and “I do”—she’ll need a man brave enough to give a total commitment-phobe a chance at more. Normally, Mitchell Forbes would be exactly that man. A devastatingly hot workaholic who tends to stay in relationships for far too long, he should be the perfect subject for Julie’s “research.” But what Julie doesn’t know is that Mitchell is looking to cut loose for once in his life. And the leggy journalist notorious for avoiding love is exactly the type of no-strings fling he’s looking for. In other words, Mitchell is the polar opposite of what Julie needs right now. And, at the s

Review: Reflexion, Everlasting Valentime: A modest proposal by Lambent Aspect

Image
(Blurb): Reflexion, Everlasting Valentime: A modest proposal was begun as one valentine to womankind. At publication, it has been designed as the perfect gift. From philosopher to womankind, from a husband to the wife; the hint of proposal, or a wedding gift given enduring the day; a reflection of the past or boasting in its history, the reality of love. Especially created as one philosophical work as to obtain the universal audience, Reflexion, Everlasting Valentime: A modest proposal... had granted the virtue of peace into the life of the author. Growing into one of the most precious breaths of life, the idea persevered to enchant the mind. Concluded as to be one swift read, like valentine, the thought of philosophical treatise has been lighted using epic poetry. Using strict grammar, the entire work had been completed; a book written in active tense about the helping verb. The handwritten manuscript found light in the writing of the final work. The author had designed to ill

Blog Talk: Captcha Challenge presented by The Book Wheel and The Relentless Reader

Image
Alison over at The Book Wheel and Jennifer at The Relentless Reader have touched on an issue that I'm sure everyone is familiar with; Captcha. (Find the original articles here and here ) Captcha is part of the Devil's work that can be driving many potential readers of your blog away. How many times have you wrote out a thought out comment only to be blindsided by ridiculous squiggly writing, hazy illegible numbers, overlapping numbers and letters, illegible "I" vs. "L", vs "K" etc. ? I'd say that 90% of the time when I come across a captcha I end up clicking close and moving on to the next site. Many times I won't even follow the blog! I don't have all day to try to decipher numbers and letters - and if I did, I sure wouldn't want to anyways! It's a headache and bloggers really should consider the alternate methods listed on the post linked above. You can still filter comments by turning moderation on, at least. I haven&

Feature and Follow #4 (What I've learned blogging)

Image
It's another FF day! As always, give a shout out the Parajunkee and Alison Can Read - the wonderful hosts of this long-going blog hop feature.   This weeks Question: Share something you’ve learned about book blogging or just blogging in general in the last month. What I've learned is that you can't let others dictate your schedule. Sometimes I get so caught up in pushing reviews out that I lose focus on the real reason I started blogging; as something fun for me to do as I relax at night. My advice, unless you're doing this as a career, you should not feel pressured to review or promote others' works. Work at your own leisure and emphasize quality not quantity.

Roaring Midnight (The Gardella Vampire Chronicles, #1 Macey) by Colleen Gleason In Roaring Midnight we pick up The Gardella Vampire Chronicles circa 1920's.   (Author): Amid the glitzy age of Jazz, when gangsters and bootleggers control the cities, there lies another, more insidious threat....the undead. Yet, strange and frightening things begin to happen, and when Macey comes face-to-face with one of the fanged creatures, she has no choice but to believe Sebastian. Review: Crushing on the Enemy by Sarah Adams

Image
Crushing on the Enemy by Sarah Adams (Amazon): Alyssa is a cheerleader for her high school. As cheer captain, she's the epitome of school spirit. That is, until the boy that she has liked forever breaks her heart in front of everyone at a football game. Jake is a football player on the rival team. After a few chance circumstances, Alyssa and Jake find themselves to be more similar than different. But Jake's father wants him to focus on his football career, and football only. Review: (As always, if interested in a short and sweet summary skip the end "Ratings" section where I break down pros and cons) Had this book had a little more re-working, I think it could have been a lot better! For the good points, it has a decent plot and doesn't digress. The characters' trials and tribulations are laid our and believable. It depicts a fairly normal teenage life with the worries of parental approval, starting college, and figuring out what one wants to do in li

Review: Wicked Games by Jill Myles and Jessica Clare

Image
Wicked Games by Jill Myles and Jessica Clare (Amazon): Abby Lewis never pictured herself on the survival game show, Endurance Island. She's just not the 'survival' type. But when her boss offers her a spot on the show and the opportunity of a lifetime, she packs her bags and heads to the tropics to be a contestant. Once in the game, it's clear that Abby's in over her head. The game itself is full of competitive, aggressive people, and no one's more aggressive than sexy, delicious - and arrogant - Dean Woodall. Sure he's clever, strong, good at challenges, and has a body that makes her mouth water. He also hates Abby just as much as she hates him. That's fine with her; she'll just ignore the jerk. But the rules of Endurance Island are working against them. Abby and Dean are teamed up - alone - on the beach. It's either work together, or go home. Stuck with no one else's company but their own, they learn they do make a good team after all.

Guest Review and Author Interview: Wayne Hicks reviews Dream Student by J.J. DiBenedetto

Image
Our Guest Reviewer: Wayne Hicks is an Independent Author of five current novels, with more coming soon! You can find him and his books at http://ebookonfire.com . Author Interview: J.J. DiBenedetto Dream Student has a very interesting plot. It holds ideas of “dream walking” abilities, precognition parapsychology, and clairvoyance all mixed together! What provided you with the inspiration for this series? The inspiration was the most basic idea – seeing into other people’s dreams.   What would that be like?   Very quickly, it hit me that this was a perfect setup for a story where the protagonist would have to solve a mystery without help from the authorities.   When Sara sees the horrible crimes committed in the killer’s dreams, she knows she’s the only witness, and she has no physical proof or even a photo or sketch she could give the police.   So she has to be the one to find and stop the killer.   That was just too good an idea to pass up.
