Review: The Vincent Boys by Abbi Glines

The Vincent Boys by Abbi Glines
Published October 12th, 2011

(Good Reads) Ashton is getting tired of being good, of impressing her parents and playing ideal girlfriend to Sawyer Vincent. Sawyer is perfect, a regular Prince Charming, but when he leaves town for the summer, it’s his cousin Beau who catches Ashton’s eye. Beau is the sexiest guy she’s ever seen, and even though he’s dangerous, Ashton is drawn to him.

Beau loves his cousin like a brother, so the last thing he wants to do is make a move on Sawyer’s girl. Ashton is off-limits, absolutely. That’s why he does his best to keep his distance, even though he’s been in love with her forever. When Ashton wants to rekindle their childhood friendship in Sawyer’s absence, Beau knows he should say no.

Ashton and Beau don’t want to hurt Sawyer. But the more they try to stay away from each other, the more intense their urges become. It’s getting way too hard to resist....

Review:

Abbi, oh Abbi. How I love your imagery. The boys are gorgeous (you definitely won't have a problem picturing them) and the scenes are steamy.

I'm not much of a love triangle gal. (I'll spare you all my Dr. Phil talk ;-)). I think it's wrong to willingly drag someone along in life...  Key word being willingly. But I understand that sometimes things happen in life that you don't even realize are happening. Until one day when it smacks you in the face.

Abbi Glines did a great job at tastefully conveying this in The Vincent Boys. It's not so much about a girl or guy that can't make up their mind as it a story of two people unknowingly falling out of love.

I think we can all relate to that somehow. Maybe you have a dream job that no longer is your dream. Or the dream house that no longer fits your lifestyle. That's exactly what Ashton and Sawyer were for each other: a dream. They had the dream life, prospect careers, and wonderful families. Ashton and Sawyer were made for each other...or so they thought.

Enter Beau. The three were once great friends as kids. But as they grew up, Beau took his own path and Sawyer and Ashton went on with their perfect lives. Now as they are approaching the end of their high school years, certain circumstances bring them together again and true colors begin to show.

I really like Abbi's writing style. She mixes the right amount of seriousness with witty remarks and comedic banter, all the while keeping it intelligent. Sometimes when authors write about Senior age high schoolers (and even college age), they make the characters come off as completely naive in every situation and overly dramatic.  Though there are some high school issues that go on that make me 1.) really dislike Sawyer, and 2.) shake my head at the absurdity of it (I had a hard time imaging their peers getting so riled up over something that had absolutely nothing to do with them...but I digress...)

Now, this is a typical Glines novel, meaning inexperienced/innocent girl meets very experienced guy. If you've read too many of those lately, you might want to wait on The Vincent Boys. I will say that the encounters build up pretty good and Ashton doesn't come off as completely naive.
