Review: Rises The Night (Gardella Vampire Chronicles, #2) by Colleen Gleason

Rises The Night (Gardella Vampire Chronicles, #2) by Colleen Gleason

Rises the Night is the 2nd installment in the Gardella Vampire Chronicles. Check out The Rest Falls Away first. This review contains spoilers of previous installments.

Still mourning the death of Sir Phillip Rockley, Victoria must figure out how to balance London Society life and her new life as a Venator. While Lady Melly and her fellow companions are busy pushing Victoria back into the lifestyle of The Ton, Victoria is getting a crash course in the rich history of thousand year old Italian vampire politics. As she attempts to stop an impeding army of death, her morals, trust, and biggest fears are all put to the test.

It just gets better and better! The Rest Falls Away was a great introductory piece that showed the initial struggles of Victoria having everything she has ever known ripped out from under her. In Rises The Night she faces the next levels of grief, denial, and anger as the reality of what she is and does finally rears its ugly head.

Of course, Max and Sebastian are back along side her - each helping in their own sometimes obnoxious way. Sebastian's past begins to be revealed and Max's impatience with Victoria's inability to choose one life over the other takes tensions to the max.

As with The Rest Falls Away, the scenes are steamy and stolen moments have you living vicariously through Victoria's emotions. If you're not into romantic roller coasters, this series definitely isn't for you. All eyes are definitely on Victoria, and as she tries to make up her mind about major decisions in life, she takes her emotional frustrations out on the many men around her. While she's not sleazy per se her ways of "reaching out for help" sometimes have you shouting in frustration. But, she is still strong, fairly level headed, and passionate about everything she does; be it addressing The Ton, Venators, or Vampires.

My rating:

My rating seems pretty high compared to others, but I just really love this series. I think it's developing wonderfully with the right amount of twists and turns. I think other readers get frustrated by the sexual tension and the fact that no one can seem to make up their minds.

Amazon: 3.8
